Elle TENS + instructions
1. Ensure you have the following contents -
-
Elle TENS+ unit
-
4x self-adhesive electrodes
-
2x lead wires
-
2x AA batteries
-
Lanyard
2. Insert batteries and attach lead wires -
-
Batteries will already be in the unit however if you need to replace them, press and rotate the belt clip at the back of the unit in either direction to reveal the battery compartment.
-
Release the battery compartment cover and insert 2x AA batteries ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals are correctly positioning as marked in the battery compartment. Replace the cover.
-
Take two of the pink lead wires and insert each of the black jack plugs into the sockets at the top of the TENS unit.
-
Now insert the pins (at the other end of the lead wires) into the sockets attached to the stick electrodes. Do not remove the electrodes from the backing at this stage. Note: Each lead wire has a red and black pin. It makes no difference which electrode they are attached to.

3. Place electrodes into position -
-
Clean and dry the areas of your back where you’ll place the electrodes.
-
Peel the pads from the plastic backing.
-
Position the top two pads (connected to the left socket CH1) approx. 4cm either side of the spine and approx. 4-5cm above naval line.
-
Position the bottom two pads (connected to the right socket CH2) approx. 4cm either side of the spine and 4-5cm below naval line. * See diagram below.

3. Turn On the Device -
-
Switch on the TENS unit using the power button.
-
Press MODE to confirm BIRTH mode. If the unit does not already display BIRTH use the Opti-max key to cycle through the modes until birth is flashing.
-
Start at a low intensity, increase by pressing CH1+ or CH2+ as desired, until you feel a strong but comfortable tingling sensation. Do not set the intensity so high that it is painful.

4. Adjust During Labour -
-
Increase intensity during contractions for extra relief. You can switch between different modes if your device has multiple programs: o BURST 1 (use between contractions) o BOOST 1 (use during contractions) for intermittent stronger pulses.
-
Once the contraction has passed, release the boost button. You do not have to hold it in during contraction.
5. Contraction timer -
-
The first time you press the BOOST button, it will automatically trigger the contraction timer (CT). This can be seen in the bottom right of the display. Once the contraction has passed, and the boost button is released, the unit will trigger the Between Contractions Timer (BCT) on the left hand side of the display.
-
To recall a list of you last CT and BCT, press CH1- and Ch2- buttons simultaneously. The last recorded times are shown as -1. Press the Opti-max - key and go back the previous sets (eg. -2, -3, -4, -5) or forward again pressing opti-max + key. Recalling contraction history will not interrupt the functionality of the unit. Note: To avoid losing contraction history, do not turn off the unit.
6. The Mode Button -
-
Mode 1 (BURST 1 and BOOST 1) primarily described above, is primarily used for the early stages of labour.
-
Mode 2 (BURST 2 and BOOST 2) is used when labour advances and your contractions become more frequent. Note: Both stages are interchangeable and can be used according to your preference, not specifically for the stage of labour you are in.
7. The Opti-max key -
-
This key provides extra versatility. Increasing or decreasing will allow you to either heighten or lessen the level of pulse power transmitted to the electrode pads.
-
Pressing + or - will increase or decrease Opti-max sensation. This is useful for the final stages of labour when you need an extra surge of power. There are 5 levels (50, 100, 150, 200, 250 microseconds). The unit will always start halfway at 150. Note: the Opti- max key can be used according to your preference, not specifically for the stage of labour you are in.
8. Safety -
-

-
Stop using the TENS if you feel any pain, dizziness, or skin irritation.
